Tucked away in the misty Rung Bong valley near the scenic town of Mirik, Turzum Tea Estate traces its origins to the 1860s. Established alongside its sister garden Sungma, the two were merged after the devastating earthquake of 1934, with Turzum emerging as the primary center of operations and laying the foundation for its enduring legacy.

Over the decades, the estate passed through the stewardship of several notable families—beginning with the Jhunjhunwalas in the late 1950s, followed by the Jindals in the 1970s. Today, it flourishes under the Jayshree Group, which oversees a portfolio of renowned estates across Darjeeling and Assam. Spread across elevations of 1100 to 1700 meters, Turzum’s landscape is shaped by cool mists, lush slopes, and serene surroundings. Its name—‘Taru Zum’, drawn from the local dialect—refers to a traditional weekly market, a nod to the vibrant community life that once pulsed through the region.

Renowned for its seasonal harvests, Turzum’s Summer teas are particularly celebrated for their refinement and consistency. With every flush, the estate continues to uphold its reputation as one of Darjeeling’s finest tea gardens—a quiet yet powerful force in the world of handcrafted teas.
